With different types of charging connectors and different power ratings it can be really confusing to know what’s what in the world of electric vehicle charging. We’ll try to simplify it! The below charging info applies to all our new generation products!

We supply this type of cable as standard with your vehicle, as it’s the recommended method for charging any electrified vehicle. This type of charging and socket was designed specifically for electric vehicles. It’s faster to charge than using a domestic plug, and depending on the chargepoint, you can get specific data on the amount of power your vehicle is taking.

You can plug into different rated power sockets, but your vehicle will charge at the maximum rate of power available, capped by the capacity of the vehicle on board charger.

7kW is the level of power that is most commonplace and suitable for UK domestic properties installing chargepoints.  At this rate, your PEUGEOT electric vehicle would fully charge in 7.5 hours.

Three phase power is not something which is common at all in the UK at domestic properties, so the 11kW three phase on board charger won’t be suitable for most customers. However, if you do have access to three phase power, you will want to consider ordering the factory option of an 11kW on board charger, as this will enable you to charge your vehicle faster – in as little as 5 hours.

We highly recommend that electric vehicle customers install a chargepoint at their home as their daily charging solution. Our charging partner is Pod Point, who are fully approved under the government Homecharge scheme. This means if you have off street parking, you can usually benefit from grant funding of £500 towards the cost of a home chargepoint.

Domestic Charging

Peugeot UK Electric Cars

Also called: slow charging, Mode 2, granny charging, trickle charging, standard charging, 3 pin charging, AC (alternating current) charging

PEUGEOT vehicle socket: Mode 2 Domestic Charging Cable

We are currently offering a free Mode 2 Domestic Charging Cable with every retail purchase of an all-new e-208, all-new e-2008 SUV or our plug-in HYBRID cars*Although charging in this way is not PEUGEOT’s preferred recommendation, we recognise that this may be required in order to meet customers’ home charging capabilities.

To fully charge the 50kWh batteries in our battery electric vehicles can take 22 hours from a typical domestic household.

As there aren’t many household appliances that would draw 10amps consistently for up to 22 hours and whilst domestic charging can be perfectly safe, PEUGEOT always recommend that you have any socket you plan to charge your vehicle from fully checked and authorised for suitability by a certified electrician.

Rapid Charging

Peugeot 3008 SUV hybrid - charging

Also called: quick charging, fast charging, DC charging, ultra rapid charging

PEUGEOT: CCS (Combined Charging System) connector

PEUGEOT charge capability: 100kW: charging to 80% in 30 minutes^

Rapid charging takes a lot of power, so you wouldn’t install one of these in your home, but you can find them in a variety of public locations. Motorway services stations have them, as do an increasing number of petrol stations, and some supermarkets and shops are installing them. Rapid charges use direct current to charge the battery directly at a very fast rate. They are highly efficient up to 80% charge, but then stop charging or slow down for the final 20%.

Public Charging Locations

There are a large number of standard and rapid chargepoints across the country, operated on many different networks. Usually you have to register with these networks, or download their app to use the chargepoints - but an increasing number are now being installed with payment card facilities build in.

Many are completely free to use. Others you pay for, either by the time you spend plugged in, or the amount of energy you use.

Public Charging – with bp pulse Plus

What is it?

  • All PEUGEOT customers buying a new battery electric or plug-in HYBRID electric vehicle can benefit from 6 months free subscription* to bp pulse  - the UKs largest public charging network. bp pulse  has the largest network of publically available electric vehicle charge points across the UK, with more than 7000 points (Dec 2019) and growing
  • In addition to 7kW AC charging points on street and car parks nationwide, bp pulse  are rolling out 150kW DC rapid chargers compatible with our battery electric vehicles (0-80% charge in around 30 minutes).
  • The charge points are easy to access through an RFID card or key fob, with 24/7 customer support

How does it work?

  • Get a bp pulse card from your PEUGEOT Retailer and follow the activation instructions, or subscribe on https://bp-pulse  In both cases, you must enter your Peugeot plug-in vehicle VIN (17 digits vehicle identification number) as the Unique Partner Offer Code in your bp pulse  account.
  • Once your subscription is confirmed, as a PEUGEOT customer you will benefit from 6 months free, rather than the 3 month offer on the website.
  • As a subscriber, many charging points are completely free to use (approx. 65% of them). At payable points, you simply pay per kWh of electricity used: from 12p for standard charging and – for this reason you will need to enter card details on subscription.
  • Following your 6 month free subscription, it’s then £7.85 per month to continue your subscription. If you prefer not to, you can still use bp pulse  charge points on a pay-as-you-go basis through bp pulse  Instant – paying a connection fee each time, as well as any electricity used.
