RADICAL PURITY

The Peugeot 308 R Concept's temperament is immediately evident. Its low posture, wide track width and muscular appearance clearly indicate its sporting intentions while demonstrating its obvious link with the award-winning Peugeot 308.

It has kept the production model's identity, attention to detail and distinctive purity of its lines, while imposing its own interpretation.

A radical concept car, the Peugeot 308 R has motor sport in its genes. It could not be mistaken for anything else, clothed in colours identifying it as belonging to the ultra-sports world.

The interpretation is innovative and unique. Opaque red envelops the front, contrasting with a textured blue-black at the rear. The two colours fuse in graded stripes, the oblique divide being borrowed from the Onyx  concept car.

EXTERIOR DESIGN

The specific bodywork elements that make the Peugeot 308 R Concept stand out are not add-ons, they are fully integrated. The doors, front wings, sides, sills, bonnet and front and rear bumpers are made of carbon-fibre and are attached to the metal structure, of which only the original roof and tailgate remain.

The front end of the Peugeot 308 R Concept has an aggressive look with three air intakes below.  They stretch across the whole of the front bumper, which covers the track width, widened by 30 mm on each side. The central intake is made up of fine horizontal bars, framed by a blued Dark Chrome border. The side intakes are covered with a carbon-fibre mesh. Together, they guide fresh air required to cool the 270 horsepower engine. The flow escapes from the bonnet via two vents built into the stylish lines as a continuity of the maker's name-block on the grille.

Made with a blued Dark Chrome trim strip, the grille is brought into the vertical by the innovative treatment of its mesh. On a matte black background, it is made up of components forming a chequerboard, the depth of which is perceptible from the side. From the front, a perspective effect is created by the changing dimensions of the elements on either side of the Lion.

The full-LED headlamps, taken from the 308 production model, are solidly embedded into the grille. The six groups of LEDs contribute to the determined attitude of the 380 R Concept.

In profile, the posture, lowered by 26 mm, is emphasised by a matt black trim on the sills. They link the wheel arches, which curve sensuously over the 19" tulip wheels. The Lion appears on each rim in blued Dark Chrome, while one of the five spokes sports the R logo in opaque red.

At the rear, reference lines emerge from the production model lights with their LEDs in the form of three claw marks, stopped cleanly by the widened wings.  Completing the beauty and radical style of the Peugeot 308 R Concept, the two symmetrical exhaust pipes emerge through black powder coat trims which enclose air outlets.

1.6 THP 270 HP ENGINE

Solidly positioned on the ground, the Peugeot 308 R Concept uses the 1.6 THP engine originally developed for the RCZ R direct petrol-injection turbo. It develops its maximum power of 199 kW (270 hp) at 6000 rpm and its maximum torque of 330 N.m from 1900 up to 5500 rpm.

The EP6CDTR engine is the result of in-depth development. A number of parts have been changed or completely redeveloped to achieve the performance required for sports use with the robustness of a production engine.

The engine itself is strengthened before machining, using a special reinforcing heat treatment. The Twin Scroll turbo was developed specifically to benefit from ideal sizing for this application and this level of performance.

FIERCE TEMPERAMENT

To exploit its full potential, the front axle is fitted with a Torsen limited-slip differential. Its contribution is felt during acceleration and braking through increased stability, and on bends by allowing a tight line to be maintained.

The Peugeot 308 R Concept has a braking system to match its performance. The Alcon discs are impressive in size: 380 mm in diameter and 32 mm thick at the front, 330 mm and 22 mm at the rear.

Mounted floating on an aluminium bowl, they are squeezed by four-piston fixed callipers. This remarkable braking power is conveyed to the road via 235/35 R19 tyres.

The Peugeot 308 R Concept is pre-disposed to positive handling through its compactness, its reduced overhangs and its lightness. To make the best use of it, the Peugeot i-Cockpit® provides an ideal driving position. Its pure design, full of character promises a new type of sensation.

For the driver, handling is simple and easy, just like the steering. The compact steering wheel makes positioning easy and enhances responsiveness. The console, with its elevated position, is turned towards the driver. Thanks to its high-precision design, reading information is easy and becomes instantaneous, so you don't have to take your eyes off the road. Finally the large 9.7" touchscreen concentrates controls, resulting in simple and intuitive ergonomics.
