The European Car of the Year award is one of the most prestigious automotive accolades.
The awards were established in 1984 by automotive magazines from different countries in Europe and judged by motoring journalists.
Throughout the years, Peugeot have won European Car of the Year an impressive five times, most recently in 2017:
The What Car? awards are highly sought after and often described as the “Oscars of the motoring world”.
Peugeot have gone on to win the What Car? Car of the Year award more than any other car manufacturer.
The first win was in 1979 with the Peugeot 305 winning Car of the Year, which was then succeeded by the Peugeot 205 GR in 1984. The Peugeot 306 then won the same award in 1994 and then in 1996 the Peugeot 406 scooped it again. In 2010, the Peugeot 3008 Crossover was crowned Car of the Year, topping the competitive Crossover category.
More recently, the unique new generation PEUGEOT i-Cockpit® driving environment of the 3008 SUV won the Technology award at the 2017 awards, and the all-new 5008 SUV won the Best Large SUV award at the What Car? Car of the Year Awards 2018 and 2019. Our latest seven-seat SUV beat off its rivals by impressing judges with its premium feel and competitive price.
We were delighted that our popular 2008 SUV was awarded the 2017 Auto Express Driver Power Best Small SUV.
On presenting this award, Auto Express Driver Power stated “Small SUVs have to strike a careful balance between practicality, frugal running costs and agile driving to suit the urban environments in which they’re often used. The Peugeot 2008 SUV has done exactly this and has beaten more established competitors to the title in this competitive sector.”
In addition, Steve Fowler editor-in-chief of Auto Express stated “The 2008 SUV’s gold award in the small SUV category shows how happy customers are with modern Peugeots, and shows that the brand has a clear understanding of its customers’ needs and desires.”

Three years after its production ended, the Peugeot RCZ is still winning accolades. Our popular sports coupe has scooped the award for the Best Used Sports Car in the Diesel Car Magazine Used Car Top 50 (formerly known as the Diesel Car Used Car of the Year awards) and even more impressively, has also been included in the list of the Top 15 Best Used Cars overall. The awards judge vehicles that are more than three years old.
Available between 2010 and 2015, the RCZ Coupe was praised by Diesel Car for its intelligent design and stylish looks – including its distinctive double bubble roof. This latest award adds to the multiple titles that the Peugeot RCZ won in its lifetime, including Diesel Car’s Best Sports Car for an incredible five consecutive years.
