Peugeot is the world’s top-selling manufacturer of electric vehicles. And now it’s set to add to its line-up with the eagerly awaited iOn.

Interest is already flooding in for the four-door, four-seat urban vehicle, which was unveiled at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

Due for launch in late 2010, the iOn is perfect for either driving in busy, congested areas or on the open road. With a maximum speed of 80mph, it can travel for 80 miles on just one charge of its premium lithium-ion batteries. These can be recharged in six hours using a conventional mains power supply at home or can be recharged to 80% of its capacity within 30 minutes, using a fast-charge system.

The iOn is also able to give the driver a real-time heads-up on the condition and remaining power in the battery. The iOn’s ‘localised communication unit’ enables the driver to monitor remaining battery power, distance travelled and distance remaining before general maintenance or recharging is required.

And safety, as always, is a priority. The iOn features ABS, traction control, ESP and six airbags. Meanwhile, specification will include air conditioning, electric windows and a range of audio equipment.

Why not pre-reserve your iOn and enjoy an electric future!
