Unstoppable!

Peugeot 908 won Le Mans Spa-Belgium
Peugeot 908 HDi FAP won the Spa (Belgium) stage of the Le Mans Series

The winning continues… with Peugeot celebrating their third consecutive victory in the 2008 Le Mans Series.

Drivers Nicolas Minassian and Marc Gene – along with Le Mans co-driver Jacques Villenueve – claimed first place in the race at Spa, Belgium on May 11.

And the results speak for themselves: Peugeot 3 – Audi 0.

With no technical problems, the 908 HDi FAP technology is now poised for the biggest race of the year – the Le Mans 24 Hour event on June 14.

And in preparation for the famous endurance race, Peugeot entered three drivers for the N° 7 and N° 8 cars at Spa. Ex-Formula One champion Villeneuve – who helped steer the N° 7 car to victory – says: ‘I thoroughly enjoyed the race. We had a good fight and the three of us did a good job together. The weekend was excellent preparation for the Le Mans 24 Hours.’

Yet the race wasn’t without incident. The No 8 car, driven by Stephané Sarrazin, Pedro Lamy and Alexander Wurz, was involved in an incident with a back marker, which resulted in the car being badly damaged and unable to continue the race.

Peugeot Sport Director Michel Barge says: ‘Peugeot has kept up its unbeaten run in the Le Mans Series and we were also pleased that we chose to use Spa to prepare for Le Mans by entering three drivers for both cars. That doesn't necessarily mean we are perfectly ready for Le Mans; we still have a great deal of work to do, especially following the accident of the N°8 car. Unfortunately, that's racing. Mixing cars of differing performance levels is one of the draws of this discipline, but it's also its biggest difficulty.’

The next race will be the Le Mans 24 Hour race on June 14.
