Bipper named International Van of the Year 2009

Peugeot Bipper is award winner
Peugeot's Bipper has won a prestigious award

Peugeot’s Bipper van has been named International Van of the Year 2009.

The prestigious award was presented at the 62nd International Commercial Vehicles Show in Hanover in September.

It is the second year in a row Peugeot has won the title. In 2008, the Expert van was given the award – recognition of Peugeot’s strength in the LCV market.

The Bipper, aimed at the entry level of the European small van market, was chosen for its original concept: big on the inside, small on the outside.

The judges – a panel of leading journalists representing 20 European countries – focused on other winning features including its optimised load volume of up to 2.8 m3 and its payload of up to 610 kg.

The low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions (62.7 mpg and 119g/km of CO2 in the combined cycle with the 1.4 litre HDi engine) were also key to its win.

The jury was impressed with the vehicle’s engines, the availability of an electronically-controlled manual gearbox and its agile road holding.

April Harris, Peugeot’s light commercial vehicle product and pricing manager, says: 'We are delighted to have won this prestigious award for the second year running. It completes a fantastic year for Peugeot vans which has seen substantial market share growth and the conclusion of our two year range renewal with the launch of New Partner and the award winning, innovative Bipper.'

The annual International Van of the Year prize has been awarded since 1992. Peugeot has previously won the award with the Boxer in 1995 and the Partner in 1997.

The Bipper is produced in Turkey in partnership with the TOFAS group and is the result of the co-operation between the PSA Peugeot Citroën and FIAT groups in the field of light commercial vehicles. It was launched commercially in the UK in June 2008.
