And the winner is…

Peugeot Design Contest 2008: Final ranking

With its smooth curves, oversized wheels and glass bubble roof, welcome to the car of the future!

The innovative vehicle is the winner of Peugeot’s fifth Design Competition. Named RD, it was designed by 25-year-old Carlos Arturo Torres Tovar from Columbia.

The brief was to design a Peugeot for the megacities of the future. And after looking at more than 2,500 entries – from 100 countries – the judges decided on the RD.

A one-seat electrically powered concept with a panoramic view, the RD also has head-up display and voice-activated controls.

And according to Peugeot, it won thanks to its ‘accessible, solid and extremely simple’ design.

The first prize of 10,000 Euros – around £8,000 – and a trophy were presented to Carlos at a ceremony during the Paris Motor Show

Second place went to Turkish designer Emre Yazici with his design called Ego. And third place went to 22-year-old Lou Ke from China for OXO.

The RD will be produced as a full-scale model for the Shanghai Motor Show in April 2009.
